New technology innovation from a European project called the EUREKA ITEA software Cluster ESNA had produced a flexible framework for business-oriented wireless sensor network applications that use a standard architecture to facilitate communications between all types of smart devices. The new technology has applications from domestic appliances and environmental controls in the home to the latest process control equipment in factories.

ESNA is advanced technology, but it is also business-oriented in terms of the cost structure. For this reason, implementations that were demonstrated in the EUREAKA projects have already lead to real applications in precision agriculture, energy monitoring and management in buildings, and industrial process control. As home networking becomes the norm, linking all of these smart devices will be a key driver of future technology that provides a high level of control over the everyday environment for enhanced comfort and safety.
